Prep time: 20 MinCook time: 45 MinTotal time: 1 H & 5 M

Ingredients

  • 4-6 cups sourdough bread, cubed
  • 1 cup berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries; fresh or frozen)
  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tablespoons of honey/sugar
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup half n half or whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • Zest of one lemon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter. Spread the bread cubes in the dish.
  2. Mix together the softened cream cheese and honey until combined.
  3. Sprinkle the berries over the bread.
  4. Dollop the cream cheese mixture over the bread and berries.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, half n half/milk, sugar, vanilla extract and lemon zest (if using) until smooth and well combined.
  6. Pour the custard evenly over the casserole, ensuring every piece is coated. Gently press the bread down with a spoon to help it soak up the liquid.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the casserole uncovered for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.
  8. Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. For an extra indulgent touch, drizzle with maple syrup or dust with powdered sugar. Pair with protein to create a perfectly balanced plate.
