Flylady Zone 5: Living Room
If you are building your FlyLady control journal, this FlyLady Zone 5 printable is for the living areas in your home.
For my simplified FlyLady routine, I like to think of any common family space (living room/family room, office/homeschool or playroom as zone 5!
Zone 5 is one of those zones that can feel a little tricky because every home is different.
Some homes have a formal living room and a family room.
Some homes have one main living space.
Some homes have a small office tucked into the corner, a playroom, a den, or a room that does a little bit of everything.
That is why I wanted this printable to feel flexible.
Instead of making it too complicated, I created a simple FlyLady Zone 5 cleaning checklist you can print and use for the living areas that actually apply to your home.

What Is FlyLady Zone Cleaning?
If you are new to the FlyLady method, the home is divided into five zones that rotate throughout the month!
Instead of trying to clean the entire house at once, you focus on one area at a time.
Each time the zone comes around, you spend a few short sessions caring for that space. Then you move on to the next zone.
This rhythm keeps the house moving forward without long, exhausting cleaning days.
If you would like to see the simple routine I personally follow, you can read more about it in my here! + Free Flylady at a Glance Printable.
That printable explains the basic routines and zone rotation that help keep things manageable.
Want a Cleaning Checklist for Every Zone?
This is part of a series of simple FlyLady zone cleaning checklists I’ve created to help you care for your home one area at a time.

Zone 1: Entrances + Porches
Zone 2: Kitchen + Dining Room
Zone 3: Bathrooms + Laundry
Zone 4: Bedrooms
Zone 5: Living Areas
You can print each checklist and add it to your control journal or homemaking binder so everything is in one place as you move through your zones.
What Is Zone 5? And How I Organize My FlyLady Zones
In the original FlyLady system, the home is divided into five rotating zones that you move through each month.
I’ve kept that same structure, but arranged the spaces in a way that feels a little more natural for how I move through my home in everyday life.
The foundation of the system stays the same. This is simply the way I personally group things.
Zone 1: Entrances + Porches
Zone 2: Kitchen + Dining Room
Zone 3: Bathrooms + Laundry
Zone 4: Bedrooms
Zone 5: Living Areas
Zone 5 focuses on the living areas of your home.
This can include spaces like the living room, family room, den, office, or playroom.
You are not trying to deep clean every living space in one day.
You are simply giving these rooms a little bit of focused attention while this zone comes around.
A dusted shelf.
A vacuumed couch.
A cleared basket.
A few things returned where they belong.
Small things like that really do help your home feel more peaceful and cared for.
Use what applies to your home and skip what does not.
If you only have a living room, just use the living room checklist.
If you have an office, playroom, den, or bonus room, you can print the extra pages that fit your home.
The goal is to make Zone 5 feel helpful, not overwhelming.

How to Use This Zone 5 Cleaning Checklist
This checklist is here to guide you through your living areas in a simple and manageable way.
You are not meant to finish everything all at once.
Instead, think of it as something you return to throughout the week.
Set a timer for around 15 minutes and choose a few simple tasks.
Maybe one day you dust the living room surfaces.
Another day you vacuum under the couch cushions.
Another day you clear out a basket, wipe down remotes, or reset the office desk.
As you complete tasks, mark them off so you always know what has already been done and what you can come back to next.
If the week ends and you have not finished the list, that is completely okay.
When zone five comes around again, you can simply pick up where you left off and keep moving forward.
Download the Zone 5 Cleaning Checklist
You can download the printable below and add it to your FlyLady control journal or home management binder.
This makes it easy to come back to each time Zone 5 rotates.
The checklist includes simple tasks like:
• dusting surfaces, lamps, shelves, and decor
• cleaning windows, blinds, doors, trim, and baseboards
• wiping remotes, controllers, and frequently touched electronics
• cleaning the TV area or media console
• vacuuming under couch cushions
• vacuuming upholstered furniture
• washing throw blankets and pillow covers
• decluttering books, baskets, games, toys, papers, or decor
• resetting office or playroom spaces if they apply to your home
• sweeping, vacuuming, or mopping the floors
Nothing to wild!
Just the small details that help your living areas feel calmer, cleaner, and easier to enjoy.
You are doing a little bit of deep cleaning consistently, so you never really need those big, exhausting cleaning days.
Instead of saving everything for a full spring clean, you are slowly working through deeper cleaning tasks over time.
And because you keep coming back to it each month, your home naturally maintains a level of clean without all the pressure!
