The entrance of a home tends to collect life.

Shoes kicked off after a long day.
Packages waiting to be opened.
Bags dropped on the nearest surface.

It is a small space, but it carries a surprising amount of traffic.

And when that space starts to feel cluttered or dusty, the whole house somehow feels heavier too.

That is why the FlyLady cleaning schedule begins here.

In this post I’m sharing my FlyLady Zone 1 cleaning checklist for entrances and porches, along with a simple way to approach caring for this space without overwhelm.

Over the years, many readers have asked me for simple zone checklists, so I created this printable to help guide the deep cleaning part of Zone 1.

Before we get to the checklist though, I want to share a little about how I personally approach the zones now.

What Is FlyLady Zone Cleaning?

If you are new to the FlyLady method, the home is divided into five zones that rotate throughout the month!

Instead of trying to clean the entire house at once, you focus on one area at a time.

Each time the zone comes around, you spend a few short sessions caring for that space. Then you move on to the next zone.

This rhythm keeps the house moving forward without long, exhausting cleaning days.

If you would like to see the simple routine I personally follow, you can read more about it in my Simplified FlyLady Cleaning Schedule Freebie

That printable explains the basic routines and zone rotation that help keep things manageable.

How I Clean My Zones Now

When I first started FlyLady, I loved using checklists.

They helped me learn what needed to be cleaned in each area of the home.

These days I usually do something a little simpler.

I set a timer for about 15 minutes, then walk into the space and look around the way a cleaning person might.

What looks dusty?
What needs wiping?
What feels out of place?

Then I simply move through whatever catches my eye until the timer goes off.

Sometimes that means wiping the front door.

Sometimes it means dusting a light fixture.

Other days it might just be shaking out the entry rug.

Those small sessions add up over time.

Just Getting Started with FlyLady? Before deep cleaning a space, any clutter will need attention first. It is very difficult to detail clean around piles of clutter!

I like to approach decluttering the same way I approach zone cleaning. When we are working in a zone, I simply set a timer for about 15 minutes and work through the space a little at a time. This gentle rhythm helps you stay consistent and get into the swing of things without feeling overwhelmed.

If your home is very cluttered, it is completely normal to spend several rounds in a zone just decluttering. There is no rush! Once the clutter feels handled, you’ll move onto the deep cleaning tasks next time you are in that zone.

This allows you to meet your home right where you are!

For readers who prefer having a simple guide to follow, I created a zone 1 deep cleaning checklist for entrances and porches.

You can download the printable below and keep it in your control journal/home management binder!

The checklist includes common deep cleaning tasks like:

• dusting surfaces
• wiping doors and trim
• cleaning windows and fixtures
• sweeping the porch
• washing entry rugs

Nothing to wild or overwhelming. Just the small details that help the entrance feel fresh!

Zone 4: Bedrooms
Zone 5: Living Areas

One Small Step at a Time

The beauty of the zone system is that it allows change to happen slowly.

Not through exhausting cleaning marathons.

But through small, steady moments of care.

A wiped front door.
A rug shaken out on the porch.
Shoes tucked back where they belong.

They are small things. But they add up!

And over time, the entrance becomes what it was meant to be.

A place that welcomes you home. Hugs!
