What Is FlyLady Zone Cleaning?
If you are new to the FlyLady method, the home is divided into five zones that rotate throughout the month!
Instead of trying to clean the entire house at once, you focus on one area at a time.
Each time the zone comes around, you spend a few short sessions caring for that space. Then you move on to the next zone.
This rhythm keeps the house moving forward without long, exhausting cleaning days.
If you would like to see the simple routine I personally follow, you can read more about it in my Simplified FlyLady Cleaning Schedule Freebie
That printable explains the basic routines and zone rotation that help keep things manageable.
Want a Cleaning Checklist for Every Zone?
This is part of a series of simple FlyLady zone cleaning checklists I’ve created to help you care for your home one area at a time.
If you enjoy having a clear, no fluff guide, you can find the rest of the zone checklists here:
Zone 1: Entrances and Porches
Zone 2: Kitchen and Dining Room
Zone 3: Bathrooms
Zone 4: Bedrooms
Zone 5: Living Areas
You can print each checklist and add it to your control journal or homemaking binder so everything is in one place as you move through your zones.
What Is Zone 1? (And How I Organize My FlyLady Zones)
In the original FlyLady system, the home is divided into five rotating zones.
I have kept that same structure, but organized the areas in a way that feels a little more natural for how I move through my home day to day.
The heart of the system stays exactly the same. This is simply the way I personally group the spaces.
Zone 1: Entrances and Porches
Zone 2: Kitchen and Dining Room
Zone 3: Bathrooms
Zone 4: Bedrooms
Zone 5: Living Areas
Zone 1 focuses on your entrances and porches.
This space tends to collect the day to day parts of life.
Shoes kicked off after a long day.
Packages waiting to be opened.
Bags dropped on the nearest surface.
It is a small space, but it carries a surprising amount of traffic.
And when it starts to feel cluttered or dusty, the whole house can feel heavier too.
That is why the FlyLady cleaning schedule begins here.

How to Use This Zone 1 Cleaning Checklist
This printable is designed to help you work through your entrance in small, manageable sessions.
You do not need to do everything at once.
Set a timer for about 15 minutes and focus on one or two tasks at a time.
Check things off as you go so you always know where to pick back up.
If you do not finish everything before the zone rotates, that is okay. Simply come back to it next time Zone 1 comes around.
✨ Pro tip: If you have more than one entrance, print a checklist for each entrance you have! Then label it! For example, I have a front door and a back sliding glass door, so I treat those as two separate spaces. I have two zone two checklist one labeled “Front Entrance” and the second “Back Porch”. This helps keep everything simple and focused!
Download the Zone 1 Cleaning Checklist
You can download the printable below and add it to your FlyLady control journal or home management binder.
This makes it easy to come back to each time Zone 1 rotates.
The checklist includes simple tasks like:
• dusting surfaces
• wiping doors and trim
• cleaning windows and fixtures
• sweeping the porch
• washing entry rugs
Nothing overwhelming. Just the small details that help your entrance feel fresh and welcoming.

The beauty of the FlyLady system is that it allows change to happen slowly.
Not through exhausting cleaning marathons.
But through small, steady moments of care.
A wiped front door.
A rug shaken out on the porch.
Shoes tucked back where they belong.
They are small things, but they add up.
And over time, your entrance becomes what it was meant to be.
A place that welcomes you home!
I hope this supports you as you move through your FlyLady zones and care for your home in simple, manageable steps. I’m cheering you on every step of the way. Hugs.
